Defending Meaningful Use Requirements for Patient Engagement

When the Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements first emerged, many eligible professionals and hospitals voiced their concern for the patient engagement requirement of view, download, and transmit (VDT). Those concerns were apparently loud enough to force the hand of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to propose significant modifications to meaningful use requirements, including reducing the five-percent VDT threshold down to one patient.
